New users are permitted posting access to 99% of the areas at this time. You must post at least 4 or 5 messages in any of the regular forums before you can use the private messaging system. Feel free to browse the different forums and post questions, comments, etc.

I am sure such would make ᏣᎵ ᎠᎴ ᎤᎫᎫ both happy.

I'm a newbie here, but just wanted to say thank you for this amazing site.
I have always been proud of my heritage, and knew a few words.
But now I am learning to read write and speak Tsalagi, at 46 yrs old...lol
The lessons are very easy to understand and the method is very effective.
Wado,

Osiyo, and wado for all this hard work! I am learning and teaching my son Cherokee. We are attending our first Pow Wow in a couple of weeks. My ancestors would be so proud. Again, wado.

Hello all,

I just wanted to say that I am new to the Cherokee language. Although my grandfather was a tribal member, I did not know him well, and never learned the language. I am not a registered tribal member either. I am, however very happy that this website is made available to preserve such a beautiful language, and help people like myself re-connect with cultural roots. I have been doing the "animals bingo" with my kids, and it is a huge hit. Thank you for the time and energy you put into making this website accessible to everyone. It has been the start to a wonderful journey my family is taking in re-discovering our own culture. :D

Learning the Vocabulary

Unread postby RavenLight » Mon May 20, 2013 3:48 pm

I might be the only one having trouble with this but I thought I would suggest it anyway.

I am in the first disk of the program and I am having a really hard time associating the ᏣᎳᎩ words with the English ones because of the extra information being said at the same time. I would suggest that instead of saying "what is the Cherokee for____" It would just say the word in English and expect the listener to translate it. It is the same with phrases like "You come around again" and "You all come around again" It is a lot easier to join the words up in my head with out the "To tell one person to come around again you would say..."
Also I would really rather it was exact translations. Just Peaceful is a great way to reply to How Are You?. Also if I am looking to use the word Peaceful in something else I have a hard time remembering what it is because I learned it to mean Well instead. Gets kind of frustrating later on :(

I don't want to be critical or insulting toward this awesome program. These are just the problems I have been having and my suggestions to maybe fix them. I bet you don't want to do the first disk over again but maybe it will come in handy to know for future disks? But if you do re-do some of the first disk let me know! :D

Thanks!

The later disks are closer to this format. The book is being rewritten, a preview of the new approach can be seen here:
